What to expect
Shostakovich's Eighth Symphony moves between the brutality of war and a stubborn spark of humanity; the composer called it a wartime requiem. The St. Louis Symphony Chorus opens its 50th anniversary season with psalm settings by Felix Mendelssohn and Igor Stravinsky. Afterward, the After Party in the lobby offers drinks and a relaxed hang with no extra ticket needed.
