What to expect
Set in a basement after-hours joint in 1967 Detroit, the play follows siblings Chelle and Lank as they work to keep the party going. Tracks by the Four Tops and The Temptations spin while the jokes and music run hot, until a mysterious stranger arrives and the streets erupt outside their door. The story moves from fun to hard truths and is set on the 60th anniversary of the Detroit uprising. Dominique Morisseau wrote the play, and she is the same writer whose Confederates captivated Repertory Theatre audiences. The show won the Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama.
