What to expect
Portuguese conductor Dinis Sousa leads the orchestra in his SLSO debut. Dvořák's Eighth draws on folk songs, bird calls and pastoral melodies inspired by the Bohemian countryside, and Kaija Saariaho's Lumière et Pesanteur adds a quieter, ethereal piece to the program. Jeremy Denk, a MacArthur Fellowship awardee and Avery Fisher Prize recipient, is the soloist in Bartók's fiery concerto.
