What to expect
Eleanor Burgess's play is set at a prestigious Northeastern university, where Zoe, a Black scholar, meets her tenured history professor, Janine, about her thesis that the American Revolution would not have succeeded without slavery. Critiques of grammar spiral into arguments about historical accuracy, erasure, professional ethics and who sets the standard for truth.
