What to expect
Eleanor Burgess's play is set at a prestigious Northeastern university. A routine meeting between Zoe, a Black scholar, and her tenured history professor, Janine, turns into a fight over Zoe's thesis that the American Revolution would not have succeeded without slavery. Critiques of grammar spiral into arguments about historical accuracy, erasure and professional ethics.
