What to expect
The play follows Nat and Diane, two strangers who take refuge in an abandoned farmhouse in New England. When a young woman named Julia arrives, old suspicions and paranoia surface, and the thin veneer of civilization begins to crack. Conor McPherson wrote this 2009 stage version of Daphne du Maurier's short story, the same tale that inspired Hitchcock's famous film. The setting is a near-future world where flocks of birds launch coordinated attacks on humanity. The question at the center is whether the characters pose more danger to each other than the birds do.
