What to expect
Rashomon (1950) centers on the murder of a samurai and the assault of his wife in a Japanese forest. A bandit, the wife, the samurai speaking through a medium and a hidden woodcutter each give a conflicting account, shaped to protect their own honor. The structure makes it a study of subjective truth and self-deception.
