What to expect
Set in a 19th-century Balkan village, the film follows Stevan, a fourth daughter raised as a boy to become the family's sole heir, as first love and tragedy push him to rebel. Finished as the Yugoslav Wars began, it was rediscovered in France by queer film historian Jenni Olson after being unavailable for decades.
