What to expect

Artifacts, images and maps show the 1904 World's Fair, also known as the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, from several perspectives: the organizers, the visitors and the workers, including those who came to St. Louis voluntarily and those who were forced. The exhibit looks at the fair as a construction site, an arena, a representation of empire and an amusement park, and weighs both the awe and the criticism it still draws more than a century later.
